The concept of the cat cafe intrigued him. The only cat Matthew had really ever known was Maruman, who would walk over Blacklands before he allowed the indignity of Matthew cuddling him while he drank tea. With Elspeth, maybe, he might have allowed it, but certainly no one else.
The animals in the Beforetime intrigue him though. He's been thoroughly enjoying his work at the stables, getting to know the horses despite the lack of fingerspeech. These horses can't understand him like the ones at Obernewtyn could, but he thinks he's beginning to form a bond with them, regardless.
He'd overheard a couple of women talking about the cafe a week or so back, and he's passing by when he spots the place and figures it can't hurt to go and have a look.
Which is how he finds himself standing in the middle of Un Chat Gris, cats crawling around his ankles, not entirely sure what he's supposed to do with them.
